The Afghan government wants the whole society to follow Islam and abide by only it's religious laws. The government's motive behind this is to convert everyone in Afghanistan to Islam. They want a country full of Muslims.
What have the Christians in Afghanistan done to the Afghan government? Or does the Afghan government just want one religion or no religion at all?
The Afghan government was angry at the Christians because of the sheer number of Christians who converted in such a short time. The new converts would move to places where Christians were allowed to do things in public.
Theodore Leighton Pennell:
Theodore Leighton Pennell was a doctor who live in the tribes in Afghanistan for most of his life. Born 1867 Pennell had a great relationship with his mother as his father died when he was very young. He was highly educated and became a doctor in 1890 and offered his services to the Church Missionary society. He went on his first missionary trip to India in1893 he moved to Bannu to preach the gospel to travelers to and from Afghanistan. He was fluent in their languages and could speak to them with passion and understanding. The mullahs opposed his work and told the traveler that his medicine was made of alcohol and pigs blood and would forcibly turn them into Christians. Pennell persisted through this and built a small hospital and a mission boarding school with his mothers’ money. Several Muslims wanted to pursue Christianity but were facing much pressure from the other Muslims. Some of the people he converted were killed as a result. He converted criminals and bandits.
He soon bought a printing press and started publishing a newspaper. The afghans hated this and one even bit his finger. He studied Arabic and preached regularly at the bazaar despite the opposition. In 1909 Pennell became seriously ill and was praised and showered with flowers by the locals upon his recovery. He soon died on 15th, March 1912

The government officials, ethnic group leaders, religious officials, and citizens are hostile towards the believers of any other religion. They believe that Christians have mental issues and either put them in mental hospitals or persecute them. The Christians, therefore, have to go into hiding to escape this injustice.
Any groups who advocate for social development, women’s issues, religious and ethnic minorities or human rights are considered to be opposing agents from the west.
At least half of Afghanistan’s provinces ruled or contested by the Taliban. There are also many militants who have pledged allegiance to ISIS.
Even the government officials, ethnic group leaders, leaders of local mosques, and mostly all the local citizens are against Christianity. Conversion to Christianity, in Afghanistan, is an act that brings shame to the family and must be undone. To be Muslim is to have honor.
All afghani Christians can not live their faith openly and are killed if caught. They are sometimes put in psychiatric hospitals and have their houses destroyed. The family of this convert must dispose of the Christian to protect their honor.
There are several reports of converts being killed in 2019 and 2017.
Any visible acts or even the exploration of other religions are outlawed and will trigger the pressure of the Taliban or ISIS Relating groups. The penalty can be death, so most converts have to relocate.
Christians can get jobs as long as they say that they identify as Muslims. If they are exposed and are found to be Christian they can be forced to convert back through any means possible, including torture
